Find the Routing Number on a Check


There are three groups of number at the bottom of a check. Every group has a purpose. For instance the very first group is your routing number, the second and third are your account number and check number respectively. For instance following is the number you found at the bottom of your check

Routing Number

 

022061542 is the routing number. You can also say that the routing number is the first set of number at the bottom of the check. As you can see above that routing number consists of nine digits. Account Number

 

Account number is the second set of numbers. Don’t be surprised if you find that account number is not the second but third set of number. But the question is how would you know? Check Number

 

Generally the third and last set of numbers is the check number. As stated earlier account number and check number may switch places. Unlike account number, check number is the shortest number. So you can easily differentiate between check number and account number.
