How to Find a Bank Routing and Transit Number


Transit number or a bank routing can be found on you paper checks. You should be looking for a nine-digit code at the bottom of the checks. We need this code especially when transferring funds electronically. This is how your funds are router to the right location. Sometimes bank routing number is required when you need to setup payroll deposits and sometimes for wire transfers. There are different names used for the 9-digit code such as RTN, routing transit numbers or check routing numbers.
 

1.  You can also find the routing number on your own checks. Generally the routing and transit number can be found at the bottom. Needless to say that it is a 9-digit code.

2. Your routing number can also be known if you contact the customer service at your bank. In case of debit card, look at the back of the card for a contact number.

3. There is website routingnumber.org where you can go to find your online routing number locator. You will need the name of your bank to run a search.

4. Your local bank can also help you with the information you are looking for.
